THE ORIGINS OF THE CENTRAL BEARS SOFTBALL CLUB

In September 1961 the Southern Tasmanian Womens Softball Assosciation advertised for people wishing to play and coach softball. These people were to gather at the Cenotaph on Saturday morning.

Mike Jefferson, who was already coaching in the association and new coach Jim Seabourne were in attendance. At the end of the meeting there was a group of girls, including some Sandy Bay hockey players, who were without a coach.

Jim made the statement that he knew just the coach for them. Mike, Jim and various others then proceeded to David Kirk's home, got him out of bed and informed him that he was now the coach of the Sandy Bay Softball team.

Over the ensuing years David gave freely of his time (and money). Through his commitment the club has grown steadily to become the largest in Tasmania.

OUR FIRST A GRADE PREMIERSHIP

For many years Central Women's A Grade had made it to the Preliminary final only to be knocked out by a run or two. The 1991-1992 season saw our A Grade enter the Grand Final after defeating Argonauts in the Second Semi-final. Argonauts then went on to make the Grand Final. After a tense and close final, Central were successful winning 3-0.
